Our Model & Programmes
STAY Africa will establish a Transnational TVET & Reintegration Centre in Nairobi, Kenya — a regional hub for market-aligned skills training, enterprise incubation, and psychosocial support serving youth from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan, and Kenya. The Centre doubles as a policy and innovation laboratory, aligning skills with labour-market demand and regional frameworks for portability and recognition.
Objectives
- Enhance employability and economic inclusion via demand-driven TVET and entrepreneurship opportunities.
- Facilitate sustainable reintegration through psychosocial support, recognition of prior learning, and linkages to jobs and self-employment.
The Three Pillars
1) Vocational Skills Training
Competency-based training co-designed with employers in high-demand sectors: construction, renewable energy, ICT, agribusiness, and creative industries — focusing on employability, not just certification.
2) Enterprise Development & Incubation
Start-up capital, mentorship, and networks help youth convert ideas into viable businesses — driving self-employment and local job creation.
3) Psychosocial Support & Community Resilience
Trauma-informed counselling, peer networks, and community engagement restore dignity, confidence, and belonging — providing resilience to endure.
Expected Results
- 2,000+ youth trained (50% women; 30% refugees/returnees) in renewable energy, construction, agribusiness, ICT, and creative industries; curricula integrate entrepreneurship, digital literacy, and green skills.
- 65% job/enterprise placement within six months, supported by apprenticeships, incubation, and mentorship.
- Recognition & portability: RPL framework piloted; harmonised certification across Kenya, Ethiopia, and Uganda under IGAD guidance.
- Cross-border partnerships: 20+ private-sector partners co-design training and internships; collaboration with IGAD, AU, and national migration directorates.
Implementation Approach
The programme combines technical assistance, institutional capacity-building, and direct service delivery in a regional framework aligned with AU, IGAD, and EAC strategies — anchored in human-centred design, market relevance, gender & inclusion, and sustainability through partnerships.
Where We Work
The Nairobi Centre is selected for regional accessibility, policy environment, infrastructure, market linkages, safety, and expansion potential — prioritising proximity to transport and services, site safety, and room for growth.
